I had trouble seeing these pictures today of Jacob and John. They reminded me of how simple our lives were when we were children. We could do ANYTHING! We had motorcycles (bikes with playing cards), we blew bubbles, we caught lightning bugs, we were superheroes (with capes), we ran until we couldn’t run anymore (and it didn’t hurt), we threw touchdowns, we shot the winning basket hundreds of times, we were fashion models, we were great actors, we were superstar singers. We were all of these things and more
Where did our dreams go? In high school you were going to (fill in the blank) and you were going to be (fill in the blank). Why didn’t those things happen?
Its time to get our dreams back. Quit worrying about the droopy drawers that we are wearing and what everybody else is thinking and go to work on our dreams. Put in place what YOU want today and start being whom you want to be and what you want to be today.
Think about when you were young. You dreamed big dreams. Is there anything wrong with big dreams? When did those dreams leave you? Did you authorize them being ripped from you or did you slowly let them fall away as time, life, kids and a spouse sucked time from you? Not that those are bad things!
How can we begin to work those dreams back into our lives? What can we do to ensure that we are the master of our future? Here’s some simple steps that can help you get your dreams back.
5 Ways to Get Your Dreams Back
#1. Block at least two hours of time
#2. Get out a yellow pad
#3. Write down your dreams (not goals, dreams)
• Let them be outrageous
• Go back to childhood and drum up the real ones
• Now move to the new ones you want now
#4. Fill THE WHOLE PAGE (if not more)
#5. Place even the ones you have accomplished and circle them
Do you have a sparkle of what you felt like in the past?
Do this drill once a month until you truly get your spark of the past and dreams back. This drill helps me hold onto what truly matters in life.
Each of us wants to matter. We all have the desire to be needed and wanted. Moreover, we want to leave a legacy. What do you want your legacy to be? BE that legacy. Be who you want to be. Don’t just live life, BE life. Give yourself the credit you deserve.
You were not placed here on this earth by accident and you do not need to live an accidental life. Live a live driven by purpose and meaning. Let the child in you LIVE!
Play a little, laugh a little, cry a little. Have a pillow fight with someone. Kiss someone unexpectedly. Try something new, even outrageous. Fly a kite, throw a paper airplane, play four square. Try a skateboard, ride a bike, do a summersault (or two).
John and Jacob haven’t been poisoned by “real” life yet. Their dreams live. My goal is to ensure they “live” to.
I hope you do and I hope you let everyone see that they too can reach their dreams.
